Evensong, Sunday, November 4 at 4:00 p.m. in the Church!
Senior Choir
Providing music for the 11:15 a.m. Sunday service and for all special functions,
the Senior Choir is the core musical organization of the parish. The choir
presents, week by week, a wide spectrum of church music - from plainchant
and Renaissance polyphony to anthems by contemporary composers. Professional
instrumentalists and ensembles complement the choir for festive liturgical
services. Although the Senior Choir is basically a volunteer organization,
funds are available to assist qualified students of music who wish to become
members of the choir. High school students and adults are invited to become
members. The Choir practices on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m.
Intermediate Choir
Organized in the fall of 1991, the Intermediate Choir is comprised of
singers and bell ringers in grades 6, 7 & 8. Singing anthems
and accompanying service music with handbells provide opportunities
for musical leadership
at the 9:00 a.m. service.
Junior Choir
Singing for the 9:00 a.m. Sunday service, the Junior Choir is open to
boys and girls in grades 2, 3, 4 & 5. In addition to singing hymns, chants
and anthems, rehearsals include exercises for training the voice and the
ear, learning the rudiments of music reading and the place of music in
Christian worship.
Handbell Choir
The Good Shepherd Handbell Choir is composed of adults of varying degrees
of musical ability who enjoy the challenge of handbell ringing. The
choir plays at various times of the church year, enhancing service music
and anthems
and playing works for handbells alone. The ringers also perform for
local civic organizations and holiday events.
Tower Carillon
Given in memory of loved ones of our parish, the 48-bel1 carillon
in the tower was built by Petit and Fritsen, Ltd., with renovation and additions
by the Meeks-Watson Co. Although most carillon music heard today is the result
of electronic amplification, ours is totally manual and is responsive to the
touch of hands and feet on the keyboard (or clavier).
